Collection of cord blood

Cord blood stem cell collection procedure is simple. It doesn't cause any pain neither for baby nor mother and is safe. After the baby is born, cord blood is clamped/cut and cord blood is collected into special cord blood collection bag. This way average 30-150 ml of blood is collected. This procedure is performed by specially trained medical staff. Cord blood collection can be performed during C-section.

9 ml of mother's blood is also taken for testing.

Collected cord blood together with mother's blood sample is transported to the laboratory of the Cord blood bank in Vilnius. Here sample is prepared for storage and testing. Cord blood transportation is arranged by Cord blood bank, however it depends on the hospital that parents choose. More details about transportation from other countries then Lithuania will be given during consultation with our coordinators.
